Research: Robert Doisneau. (WK 3)

Robert Doisneau was a French photographer, he used a lecia camera when photographing the streets of Paris. He and Henri Cartier Bresson were pioneers of photojournalism. He is most renowned for his 1950's image Le baiser de l'hôtel de ville (Kiss by the Town Hall), a photograph of a couple kissing in the busy streets of Paris.

There is a lot of depth in his black and white photographs, the bottom two have all of the frame in focus, whereas the first only has the couple completely in focus. The motion blur helps to show what the scene was really like during that time, it gives the feeling of movement, as if the figures could start moving at any second. The other two photographs are the complete opposite, they're still and quiet, with many different things to focus on. The leading lines in the third image are helpful in showing exactly where they photographer wanted the viewer to look and the side of the building in the second image is a good indication that the center is relatively where you are meant to be focusing. There are a lot of shadows in all three photographs, but the shadows help with focusing the eyes of the viewer, they aren't a draw back or distraction.
