Pat Brassington is one of Australia's most influential artists. Brassington's images have double sides, being both charming and menacing at the same time. Her work has endless possibilities within their meaning.

Pat Brassington's images are more in my style, the images are both very different in their own ways. The first image is soft, the focus on the dress, the earthy tones make it a little more interesting than a coloured photograph would've. The second image, it looks as if the fish has been placed onto the photograph. I love the contrast between the black dress and the orange of the fish. It's all in focus as well, the whole image, none of it's been blurred out which makes the lines within the photographer clearer and stronger. This is the opposite to the first image where all the lines are blurred, they stand out against the background because of the colour, but there is no definite line of the dress. The soft focus works for the image, just as the sharp focus works for the one next to it. It seems as if a lot of thought was put into the composition of both photographs.

‘I aim to pitch my images just off the verge of normality, into those dense patches where the commonplace goes awry.’
